Environment & Sustainability

Environmental Benefits, our message is simple.

Biophillia

Exposure to nature has never been more important than it is today.  The Biophilia hypothesis is the idea that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life.  Businesses can reduce the negative impacts of sterile, lean workplaces and actually enhance their environments by integrating a variety of biophilic features such as living walls, plants, natural woods or stone, and more that mimic the natural world.

Pollution

Air pollution in the UK is claimed to kill 40,000 people per year.  The emissions levels in cities are getting to a crisis. One of the ways to combat this pollution is by integrating more plants in cities. By choosing plants that are the best at filtering the air, there’s potential to decrease the pollution levels significantly.  'Living walls’ of plants and climbing hedera helix ivy have a better opportunity to act as an air pollution filter.  Instead of reducing pollution by 1 or 2%, reductions of more than ten times is being achieved.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play.  For example, a larger number of plant species means a greater variety of crops.  Greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms.  Green roofs and walls are now known as conservation tools, and they offer promising additional opportunities to enhance biodiversity in cities. Green roofs and living walls show limited patch sizes, distinct habitat quality and limited redundancy of patch quality.

Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is defined as: The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). Our living walls help buildings become more energy efficient which leads to a decrease in carbon emissions.  They also mitigate the urban heat island effect, absorb and filter storm-water, reduce pollution and act as carbon sinks.

Graffiti Prevention

Yes, living wall and installing green screens can even achieve that.  Graffiti is a problem which cities struggle against in vain. Climbing trees and shrubs at the base of walls can be an effective protection, because there is no space for graffiti on vegetated walls! Also already existing graffiti can be covered with plants. So green walls can be an effective facade protection and are affordable, low maintenance and ecologically valuable.

Perimeter Security

Perimeter security and property segregation can be instantly achieved by installing green screens.  Green screens come in various heights and species and can be ground planted, sleeper or in planter boxes, for instant boundary solutions.   More cost effective than bricks and in some cases fencing and better for the environment.
